Chevrolet Spark

  •  Chevrolet Spark, 2013
The 2013 Chevrolet Spark mini car, introduced at the 2011 Los Angeles International Auto Show, is the only car in its segment to offer a seven-inch color touch screen radio capable of displaying smart phone-based navigation, media and contacts for hands-free calling.

A sporty 4-passenger, five-door hatch updated for United States and Canadian consumers, Chevrolet Spark is designed to excite first-time buyers and city dwellers with its bold styling and colors, affordability, the safety of 10 standard air bags, fuel efficiency and maneuverability.

Though compact, Chevrolet Spark offers more passenger and cargo room than other mini cars such as the Fiat 500, Smart fortwo and the Scion iQ. Equipped with the 1.2L four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission, Chevrolet Spark will offer competitive fuel economy.

Chevrolets exclusive My Link infotainment system, which features the personalized connectivity of Pandora and Stitcher internet radio, will be offered on 1LT and 2LT models when Chevy Spark goes on sale in the United States and Canada in mid-2012.

In addition to My Link, Chevrolet Spark is the only car in its segment to provide the added value of a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty and the safety and security of On Star.

The original version of the Spark is already on sale in Europe, Asia, Australia, Mexico and South America, where it has received several styling and safety awards.

Designed for those who live large and loud
Just as the Cruze helped strengthen Chevrolets position in the small car segment with its more-than-expected value, the Chevrolet Spark is designed to challenge preconceived notions of how an affordable mini car can look, feel and drive.

While the Chevrolet Spark looks like a three-door hatch, designers cleverly disguised the rear doors by integrating the handles into the C-pillar area. The technique gives Spark its sporty appearance without sacrificing four-door comfort and utility. An integrated spoiler over the rear hatch door enhances Sparks dynamic appearance while also improving the cars aerodynamics, for fuel efficiency.

Chevrolet Sparks wheels-at-the-corners stance is further emphasized by standard 15-inch alloy wheels. Other exterior styling enhancements include a new grille and front fascia, a longer rear fascia, and modified headlamps and tail lamps. Redesigned outside rear view mirrors also improve aerodynamics.

Uplevel features include matching rocker panel moulding, chrome brightwork at the beltline and liftgate handle trim, detail around the poke-through exhaust outlet and around the fog lamps.

Attention-grabbing exterior finishes include Salsa, Jalapeno, Denim, Lemonade and Techno Pink, as well traditional hues such as Grey Area, Black Granite, Silver Ice and Summit White.

The inside of Chevrolet My Link infotainment system, included on 1LT and 2LT Spark models, provides a seven-inch color touch screen. With My Link, Spark buyers can bring their customized music libraries into the vehicle and use their smart phones and Bluetooth connectivity to access both Pandora and Stitcher internet radio and navigation. When the vehicle is stopped, owners can project video and even personal photo albums onto the screen.

Sirius XM Satellite Radio also is available on up level Spark models.
Air conditioning and power windows are standard across the Spark lineup. Color-coordinated interiors feature a lower instrument panel - with a motorcycle-inspired gauge cluster - and lower center console for maximum visibility and storage. Decorative inserts in the front door and instrument panel add a premium touch, as does the ice blue ambient lighting and face plates across the door pockets and dash. Heated leatherette seats and leather-wrapped steering wheel are included on Spark 2LT.

Efficient powertrain saves fuel, money
In the United States and Canada, the Chevrolet Spark will be powered by a 1.2L dual-overhead cam four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing that delivers an estimated 85 horsepower (63 kW). It is mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission for competitive city and highway fuel economy. A four-speed automatic transmission will also be available.

The dual-overhead cam 1.2L was developed using best practices from GM Powertrain technical centers.

It combines competitive performance with sophisticated technologies such as dual continuous variable cam phasing, electronically controlled thermostat and low-friction engine oil to give customers an engine that is low- m aintenance, with reduced emissions and outstanding fuel economy.

Ride and handling
Sparks body-frame integral structure is tight and stiff for improved driving dynamics. The electronic power steering, Mac Pherson strut-type front suspension and anti-lock braking systems are designed to deliver taut, tight handling characteristics that better connect the driver with the road and provide outstanding overall stability. Stabili Trak electronic stability control is standard.

Spark is equipped with vented front disc and rear drum brakes with low-compressibility brake pads for optimal stopping performance and good pedal feel. Low-rolling resistance tires use a silica compound and revised tread design for a solid road feel and improved fuel efficiency.

Safety features include 10 air bags
Chevrolet Spark was designed with occupant safety in mind, and has won safety awards in both Europe and Korea.

Its safe design begins with a structure composed of 60 percent high-strength steel.

In addition to crash-avoidance technologies such as Stabili Trak and ABS, Spark is equipped with 10 standard air bags, including both driver and passenger front knee air bags to reduce the risk of lower extremity injuries in frontal crashes. Dual-stage frontal air bags, seat-mounted side air bags and side curtain air bags that extend over the front and rear seating rows are also standard.

Other safety technologies include rollover sensing system; three-point safety belts in all four seating positions; seat belt pretensioners in the front driver and passenger seats; the LATCH child seat attachment system; releasable pedals; adjustable head restraints; and a collapsible steering column.

Chevrolet Spark also is equipped with the On Star safety and security system, which uses GPS and cellular phone technology to automatically call for help in the event of crash.

2014 Chevrolet Impala Taking Air Intake Seriously

Variable valve timing has been an integral part of making engines make more horsepower and consumer less fuel for awhile now. Now it seems that isnt good enough and manufacturers are looking for ways to gain even more control on how engines breath.

Chevrolet is taking some concepts from other manufacturers and tweaking them for an all new valve train system for their new 2.5L Ecotec engine. With any system like this there is always an acronym. This one happens to be IVLC, read Intake Valve Life Control. This system incorporates two outer high lift lobes and one inner low lift lobe per cylinder.

This systems has two settings, low lift and full lift. Low lift opens the intake valve a total of 4.0 millimeters. In this mode oil pressure is starved from the system and this unlatches the high lift roller from the low lift roller. This occurs under light throttle and cruising situations when just the right amount of air is needed.

When the driver needs more power the system actuates a pin via oil pressure to lock the high and low lift rollers together. Now the driver is getting 10.5 millimeters of valve lift for maximum power and torque. This mode comes into play during hard acceleration and passing situations.

IVLC has a lot in common with other valve train designs. Honda has their V-TEC and Fiat has their Multiair system. Other manufacturers use systems that have an actuator that can advance or retard the valve timing depending on engine needs.

Chevrolet says this system is good for "up to" one mile per gallon boost. Mike Anderson who is General Motors global chief engineer for Ecotec engines said, “Intake Valve Lift Control works so seamlessly drivers aren’t likely to notice it at all,”.  Chevrolet has stressed refinement and efficiency with the new 2.5 liter Ecotec engines.

Customers wont have to wait for the Impala to sample this engine though. Another iteration of it will be found under the hood of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. This version will not have IVLC.

What do my gear heads think? Is this a good system? Will it increase fuel efficiency? Will this be enough motive force for the upcoming Impala? Let me know in the comments.

Ridiculous steering wheel design; compromised ergonomics; marginal interior materials; tiny trunk opening; cramped backseat. Overall, I would say that GM nailed this interior. For the car, anything less would have been a disappointment. Besides, development dollars were spent in a much smarted manner elsewhere like the electronics and powertrain. If you drive convertible wants quiet and stand out a bit. Who does not bother even to look unabashed, selects the best 2013 Chevrolet Camaro convertible. The open-Ami is the automotive equivalent of the cowboy boots: a striking symbol of freedom and adventure and an individualistic statement - although both vehicle and footwear is not appropriate for every social occasion.

Big eyes and outstretched index finger, the Camaro convertible is always good. In comparison a Porsche is a mundane daily driver. The powerful four-seater seems to bristle with energy, but is not only dull muscle mass, but definitely a retro-designed consistent athletes in the best tradition of the original Camaro from 1966.

In addition: The bodybuilder outfit is more than just show. 318 kW/432 hp proud mobilized the powerful V8 under the long hood. Thats enough for a 100-km/h-Spurt in under six seconds, but it also makes the slow cruising on the great wave of torque for pleasure. Unlike many other Americans, the Camaro is also not only a candidate for the long straight, but he also mastered the cornering no worse than its European competitors.

Chevrolet Traverse

  •  Chevrolet Traverse, 2013

The new 2013 Chevrolet Traverse crossover-utility vehicle offers families a new gathering space with greater style, refinement and safety. It goes into production later this year, building on the space, comfort and efficiency that have made Chevrolet Traverse popular.

The 2013 Chevrolet Traverse has a new, athletic exterior design, complemented by a more expressive front end that introduces a new face for Chevrolet crossover utilities.

The front features a new shape supported by a powerdome hood, a three-bar upper and two-bar lower grille design, new lamps, chrome accents around the grille and fog lamps, and sculpted front corners similar to the Malibu sedan. The new design captures the overall character of Chevys new car lineup, for a consistent family resemblance.

New family gathering space
Space is the hallmark of the Chevy Traverse interior. With its class-leading spaciousness, comfortable and flexible seating for up to eight adults, and more cargo-carrying capacity than any other vehicle in its segment, the 2013 Chevy Traverse builds on these established attributes by offering an interior environment with new features and refined appointments.

Upgraded materials include soft-touch surfaces on the instrument panel and front door uppers, contrasting stitching, chrome and silver accents, and available blue ambient lighting that flows through the cabin.

A new center stack showcases a 6.5-inch color touch radio with the available Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system. MyLink allows customers to seamlessly integrate their smartphones for hands-free calling through the audio system and Bluetooth streaming of popular internet radio favorites Pandora and Stitcher. The center stack also has large and illuminated climate controls that are easier to use and have a more upscale feel.

The front seats now feature articulating head restraints that can be adjusted up or down and fore and aft for greater comfort. The eight-way power passenger seat includes leather trim. New wood trim treatments are standard on LT and LTZ.

Adding to the overall feel of quality, the fit and finish of the interior panels have been improved on all models. The new Chevrolet Traverse will come with three interior color choices, in cloth or leather, including Ebony and Mojave, Light Titanium and Dark Titanium, and Ebony.

Passes the parent test
The Chevrolet Traverse passes the parent test with three rows of seating standard on all models, flexible seating configurations, class-leading people and cargo-carrying capacity, and family-friendly entertainment and other features.

Chevrolet Traverses second-row seat comes with a pair of captains chairs or a three-passenger bench. Each incorporates Chevrolet Traverses child-friendly, second-row SmartSlide feature that enables unobstructed access to the third-row bench seat with one hand - and is easy for children to operate.

The third-row seat can comfortably accommodate three adult passengers. Chevrolet Traverses 24.4 cu. ft. (691 liters) of cargo room behind its third row is larger than many full-size utility vehicles. Chevrolet Traverse also has easy-to-operate safety belts, up to 12 cup holders and an available rear-seat entertainment system.

Efficient power and car-like ride
Chevy Traverse has a long 118.9-inch (3,019 mm) wheelbase, with a wide 67.8-inch (1,721 mm) front track and 67.4-inch (1,712 mm) rear track - a combination that enables smooth, stable ride and handling characteristics.

Efficiency in the Chevrolet Traverse comes from a technically advanced 3.6L V-6 with fuel-saving direct injection technology and continuously variable valve timing. It is mated with a six-speed automatic transmission with improved shift feel that results in more confident acceleration when the driver needs additional power to enter the highway or pass another motorist.

The engine is SAE-certified at 288 horsepower (215 Nm) and 270 lb.-ft. of torque (366 Nm) with dual exhaust (281 hp/210 kW and 266 lb.-ft./361 Nm with single exhaust). Its direct injection fuel delivery helps produce power similar to many V-8 engines and uses regular unleaded gasoline.

The transmission controls have been revised to provide quicker and more consistent shifts. Along with additional transmission hardware changes, the Chevrolet Traverse is expected to continue to deliver among the best fuel economy ratings of any eight-passenger (FWD) utility vehicle.

Ride and handling improvements have been made through the use of rebound springs in the front struts that increase roll control. New shock valving has been employed for low-velocity control to deliver a smoother ride at lower speeds.

The available intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system provides increased traction on slippery roads by actively managing the torque distribution between the front and rear axles, based on factors such as wheel speed, throttle and surface conditions. There is no driver intervention; the system automatically decides how much torque to apply and delivers it to the wheels that have the best traction.

Chevrolet Traverse maintains capability to deliver improved ride and handling, offering utility-like towing capacity of up to 5,200 pounds (2,358 kg).

Smart and safe family hauler
The Chevrolet Traverse is among the safest vehicles on the road today, previously earning top honors and recognition from leading third-party organizations and in government crash testing.

For 2013 it enhances its safety reputation with the industrys first front center air bag. It is engineered to provide additional restraint to drivers and front passengers in far-side impact crashes, where the affected occupant is on the opposite, non-struck side of the vehicle.

When a severe impact occurs, the air bag deploys in milliseconds from the inboard side of the drivers seat and inflates between the driver and front passenger, providing added protection for both front occupants.

Additional safety and security features:
  •     Available Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert systems (standard on LTZ) use radar to watch spots the driver may not see - and provide visible and audible warnings to help prevent collisions.
  •     Standard head curtain side air bags with rollover protection for outboard occupants in all seating rows. In addition to providing protection in moderate-to-severe side crashes, the roof-mounted head curtain air bags will deploy in a rollover to help provide increased occupant protection and containment.    StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology is standard on all models and incorporates full-function traction control.
  •     Standard rearview camera system is designed to provide the driver with added capability to view what is in the rearward path of the vehicle.
  •     Standard four-wheel-disc brake system with ABS featuring smooth, quiet operation, longer pad life and more resistance to brake pulsation.
  •     Safety belt pretensioners reduce forward movement during a collision, and are standard on the front safety belts, along with load-limiting retractors that help limit the belts impact on the occupants chest. The dynamic locking latch plate locks to hold the occupants pelvis in place.
  •     LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child seat attachment system is included in outboard second-row seating positions.
  •     Tire pressure monitoring system is standard on all models.
  •     Strong body structure to absorb crash energy and provide a protective "safety cage" around occupants.
  •     Standard hill start assist brakes help reduce the tendency of a vehicle to roll forward or backward on a hill after the brake pedal is released by momentarily retaining pressure on the brake discs.

OnStar Features
OnStar is standard on all Traverse models. It uses GPS and cellular phone technology to automatically call for help in the event of a crash. OnStar subscribers also can use the service to be Good Samaritans by sending help to other motorists, and to call for help in other non-crash emergencies.
OnStar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the United States and Canada.
Six months of complimentary OnStar Directions and Connections service with Turn-by-Turn Navigation for easier route guidance comes on all Traverse models. The feature is easy to use because all directions are sent to the car by an advisor, without the need to stop. Turn-by-Turn can be cost-effective, since map updates and aftermarket navigation systems are not needed.
Stolen Vehicle Assistance helps police track the vehicle.
OnStar Mobile App allows owners with Android or Apple smart phones to remotely start the engine, lock and unlock doors and view vital vehicle information such as tire pressure, fuel tank level, range, remaining oil life, etc.

For 2013, Chevrolet Traverse is offered in LS, LT and LTZ models (with two LT packages: 1LT and 2LT), in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. It is built in Lansing, Mich.

Lock It Up 2014 Chevrolet Impala Offers Secure Info Storage

Anyone who has ever felt trepidation about handing their car keys to a valet will appreciate the 2014 Chevrolet Impala. The redesigned flagship sedan offers a “valet mode” that lets someone unknown take the wheel but shields personal items and information from prying eyes.

The new Impala’s available 8-inch center stack display is an interactive touch screen for the next-generation Chevrolet MyLink system but doubles as a PIN-activated retractable faceplate over a secure storage bin large enough to hold valuables like a wallet, MP3 player and smartphone. Addresses and contacts stored on MyLink also remain PIN-protected.

“Valet mode is the kind of feature that Impala customers will appreciate,” said Chris Perry, Chevrolet vice president of Global Marketing. “It is one of many great new features on our newest MyLink and a small part of Impala’s overall technology package.”

Impala owners will be able to access valet mode through MyLink’s Settings menu via a four-digit code, much like on a hotel safe. A confirmation entry of the code simultaneously locks the bin and secures personal information.

Chevrolet customer clinic participants showed avid interest in valet mode, particularly young car buyers who valued MyLink’s information privacy protection feature. Impala’s hidden bin also addresses customers’ frequently expressed need for a secure place to keep personal items out of sight.

“We were able to move the MyLink system’s electronics to another location in the vehicle, effectively creating the space behind the touch screen,” said Matt Highstrom, General Motors human-machine interface designer.

In addition to privacy protection, Impala’s next-generation MyLink system allows for increased personalization. Owners can click and drag icons on the home screen located in the center stack, similar to operating a smartphone or tablet.

Using consumer research, including interviews and online voting, designers of the award-winning MyLink developed four specific graphic appearances or “skins,” selectable through the Settings menu, designed to appeal to distinct customer group personalities. They include:

Contemporary – Clean, simple interface that’s neither overly colorful nor busy, geared to busy moms and families.
Edge – Youth-oriented, dynamic feel with vibrant colors and pop culture-inspired icons.
Velocity – Sleek, with carbon fiber background appearance and glowing neon, aimed at driving enthusiasts.
Main Street – An all-around, crowd-pleasing design using primary colors.
These and other functions, including valet mode, will be rolled out to other Chevrolet models featuring the next-generation MyLink system.

“We can’t design a custom Impala interior for every customer, but we can give them the next best thing – an infotainment system that reflects their tastes and features that meet their needs,” said Matt Fuligni, design manager, Chevrolet User Experience.

The 2014 Impala will begin production this spring and eventually will be offered with three engine choices. A 3.6L V6 will be available at launch, starting at $30,760 including destination charges.

Chevrolet will showcase a new lineup of performance cars for the 2014 model year at the New York International Auto Show, including the all-new Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible, all-new SS performance sedan and refreshed Camaro.
The new cars build on Chevrolet’s success in 2012, when the brand accounted for one out of three performance cars sold in the United States.
“Chevrolet customers have validated our performance credentials with their enthusiasm,” said General Motors North America President Mark Reuss “Were going to give them even more reasons to be enthused about Chevrolet performance, design and technology.”
Chevrolet will showcase:
2014 Camaro – The New York International Auto Show will host the world debut of the revamped 2014 Camaro, which advances the design and performance attributes that has made it the most popular sports car under $50,000 for three consecutive years.
2014 Corvette Stingray convertible – Earlier this week in Geneva, Chevrolet unveiled the drop-top version of the new Corvette Stingray. Unlike other convertibles, the Stingray delivers an uncompromised driving experience with a similar power-to-weight ratio and chassis tuning identical to the coupe. It features an all-new, fully electronic top that can be lowered with the push of a button, and even remotely using the key fob.
2014 SS sports sedan – Introduced at Daytona in February, the SS is the brand’s first V-8-powered, rear-wheel driven performance sedan since 1996. It’s based on a race-proven, global platform and powered by a 6.2L V-8 rated at an estimated 415 horsepower. Driving through a six-speed automatic transmission, it sprints from 0 to 60 in five seconds flat.
2014 Corvette Stingray coupe – Introduced at the North American International Auto Show in January, the all-new Corvette Stingray rolls into the Big Apple 60 years after the Corvette made its public debut in New York City. The seventh generation of the iconic sports car will be the most powerful, most capable and most fuel-efficient standard Corvette ever, with an estimated 450 horsepower, acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds, and better fuel economy than the 2013 Corvettes EPA-estimated 26 mpg highway.
